Budget assistance for car and building industries
Article Abstract:
The measures making up the Chancellor of the Exchequer's 1992 Budget will mainly be targetted at reducing inflation. The anti-inflationary measures already in place must be maintained where at all possible, but the government also recognises the need to aid the recovery of business and industry from the recession. Possible aspects of the Budget include extra assistance for the car and construction industries, with the special tax on new cars being reduced by half, for example, and local authorities being allowed to give more work to the construction industry by using some income from sales of houses and land. The Chancellor may also introduce a rise in grants for private sector housing renovation.

Brown's mixed bag
Article Abstract:
UK contractors are expected to benefit from moves made by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Gordon Brown to fund up to 43 million pounds sterling worth of improvements to casualty units throughout the country. The announcement of extra funding was made during the March 1999 budget. A fall in corporation tax will also help the construction industry which is buoyed up by low interest rates and a fall in income tax. The industry will be hit by plans to reduce the number of road building schemes.
