Doubleday boosts online book club efforts

Doubleday Direct Inc, a Bertelsman-owned mail-order giant, will boost its online book clubs promotions to downplay competition from Internet booksellers. The company will launch such book clubs as Oasis (oasisbookclub.com), Black Expressions (blackexpressions.com) and Venus (venusbookclub.com) in the US over the next coming months. These book clubs will be launched with paper-based mailings, telemarketing banner ads, audience-specific Web sponsorships and targeted e-mail campaigns.

Vegetarian Times plans fresh market approach

Active Interest Media Inc., is relaunching Vegetarian Times magazine. The rehashed magazine will now target both the baby boomers, and the generation born between 1979 and 1994. Active Interest acquired the publishing rights for the magazine from Sabot, Richmond, VA.
