Excite@Home pays $425 million for iMall

Excite@Home Inc plans to acquire Sta Monica, CA-based iMall Inc for $425 million. The acquisition is part of an overall strategy by Excite@Home to create an even bigger source for electronic commerce revenues by hosting online merchants and establishing their cyberstores aside from providing Internet access. The deal has also given Excite@Home access to the back end payment services of the Merchant Services unit of First Data Corp, which is the leading credit/debit card transactions processor in the US.

USA Networks-Lycos merger in question
Article Abstract:
The proposed merger between television media powerhouse USA Networks Inc and Internet portal Lycos may be called off following the drop in Lycos stock price. However, the agreement does not contain an escape clause the would allow Lycos to end the deal if its stock falls to a predetermined price. USA Networks is planning to combine Lycos with its Home Shopping Network and Ticketmaster Online-CitySearch Inc units to form a new electronic commerce giant.
