FTC sues CA medical billing marketer

Van Nuys, CA-based Medicor is facing a civil lawsuit filed by the US Federal Trade Commission. The company marketed medical-billing opportunities to consumers through direct response print ads. Medicor has been ordered to cease its marketing operations temporarily. Its assets has also been frozen and a temporary receiver has been appointed pending an hearing on the injunction. The lawsuit charges Medicor with misrepresenting potential earnings and the availability of refunds, as well as misrepresenting that the company would provide consumers with billing work from doctors.

MicroAge puts teleservices subsidiary up for bids

Tempe, AZ-based MicroAge Inc is selling its teleservices subsidiary MicroAge Teleservices LLC via an auction. The divestiture is part of its reorganization underr Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings. Bids will be taken at an Oct 25, 2000 auction at US District Court in Phoenix, AZ. A limited liability corporation has agreed to buy the teleservices subsidiary unless better bids are produced by the auction.
