GoogleEs Gmail and the future of E-Mail
Article Abstract:
GoogleEs new email service Gmail, besides offering 1 GB storage, also provides sponsored ad links related to the e-mailEs topic. Criticism of the latter provision has ranged from irritation to cries of privacy violation. Comparison of email scanning for viruses with marketing based on content cannot be justified. If we compared sponsored ad links with phone companies listening on conversations and offering content-related ads or with the US Postal Service stuffing content-related ad material in our envelopes, then GmailEs feature would be illegal under law.
