DMA debuts e-MPS
Article Abstract:
The Direct Marketing Assn (DMA), reacting to adverse consumer reaction over unsolicited bulk commercial electronic-mail, will introduce its E- Mail Preference Service (e-MPS) on Jan 10, 2000. The service will allow people from all over the world to choose not to receive marketing materials from both DMA members and other companies who use the service. e-MPS, a result of the DMA's conference in Toronto, Ontario, has already received criticism as a weak answer to the issue of spamming over the Internet.

Hanover Direct Inc of Weehawken, NJ, reported a loss of $16.3 million from revenues of $549.9 million in 1999. The performance, which can be considered an improvement from 1998's loss of $25.6 million from revenues of $546.1 million, is attributed to actions initiated by the company. These include the launching of the Company Kids catalog in Mar 2000, the divestment of the Austad's golf catalog in fall 1999, the closing of the Tweeds catalog and the incoporation of the Colonial Garden Kitchen catalog into its Domestications line.
