House revives 'Know Your Caller' bill
Article Abstract:
Telemarketers will be prohibited from blocking caller-ID through the Know Your Caller Act which has been resuscitated at the outset of the legislative session in 2001. The legislation would allow states, individuals and the Federal Communications Commission to sue telemarketers for up to $500 per violation. It exempts telemarketers that cannot transmit caller-ID information due to technological limitations as well as nonprofit organizations, political telemarketing calls or calls made to existing customers.
