Innovative Z-lot homes break traditional mold

The Blair design of the Cobblestone in Pikesville, MD, received a 1993 Best in American Living Merit Award. The house features staggered sideyards which provide privacy and facilitates maintenance. The use of the Z-lot plan allows the installation of a private patio and provides an additional space which may be converted into a courtyard. The ground floor contains the living, family and dining rooms, the kitchen, a braekfast nook and the master suite. The second level contains two bedrooms with a common bath and a loft overlooking the living and dining rooms.

The Ryder Cup at West Chester, OH, received the 1993 Best in American Living Award for Best in Region: East North Central. The house is of Victorian style, from the front loggia to the columns and the elaborate ceiling treatments. The loggia provides a spacious setting for informal gatherings and connects to the library/sitting room. The master suite connects to the library, rear veranda and patio. The second floor contains three bedrooms and a balcony overlooking the living room.
