Amazon.com slips after 4th-quarter sales report

Amazon.com Inc shares declined rapidly despite better-than-expected sales performance for the 4th qtr of 1999. The Seattle, WA-based online retailer's share prices dropped by over 10% to just over $71 per share on Jan 5, 2000, a 30% decline from its previous value of $113 per share. Amazon's stock market performance is attributed to a projected total loss for 1999 that is expected to surpass its deficit of $124.55 million in 1998.

Electronic-signature law could increase sales
Article Abstract:
ESIGN, also known as the Electronic Signatures in Global and National Commerce Act, has been passed by the Lower House. The proposed legislation, which is expected to eventually be signed into law by Pres Clinton, will permit electronic signatures to be used in insurance policies, loans, mortgages and other products and services that currently requires pen-on-paper signatures. ESIGN is expected to take effect on Oct 1, 2000.

Land's End adds Web chat to call center capabilities
Article Abstract:
Land's End of Dodgeville, WI, has launched an interactive text-based Web called Land's End Live. The interactive chat feature would allow customers to talk in real time with the company's customer service representatives or request a phone call back from an agent who will then guide customers through the site while speaking with them on the phone. The company is using the WebLine Collaboration Server from WebLine Communications Corp of Burlington, MA, for the Land's End Live chats.
