Shippers raise their rates to offset higher fuel prices
Article Abstract:
Major transportation companies are expected to raise their shipping rates as a reaction to an increase in the prices of fuel. Industry observers are forecasting an across-the-board increase of between 4% to 6% until Jan 2001. The US Postal Service, which has yet to follow the move by the majority of shippers, is nevertheless expected to file a request for an accross-the-board increase with the Postal Rate Commission within Jan 2000.

Carriers control costs as fuel prices soar
Article Abstract:
Major package delivery services such as FedEx, United Parcel Service and the Postal Service reported that they are having no trouble containing costs despite increasing gasoline prices as they had anticipated and prepared for the increases. Thus, these carriers noted that customers need not worry about increasing courier service costs, at least in the immediate future. They also welcomed indications which suggest that the gasoline fuel price crisis may be easing.
