Contractors: don't leave underlayments out
Article Abstract:
Underlayments increase the waterproofing protection of roofs, in the perimeters, valleys, and eaves, and help seal around the nails. These roofing products also protect the deck until the roof shingles are installed and maintain this protection, even if a shingle be blown off or damaged. Underlayments also serve as a separating layer between the shingles and resin-impregnated lumber. Most roofing contractors recommend that underlayments and eave protection be used on residential roofing projects.

The buck stops with you
Article Abstract:
Roofing contractors, roofing product manufacturers and building owners have all adopted different stands on the issue of locked or proprietary specifications. Yet, whether or not the industry is truly a victim of a low-bid mentality among roofing contractors and whether 'proprietary' and 'performance' essentially mean the same thing are a matter of opinion. The furious debate within the industry sparked by the issue of proprietary specifications serves as a reality check for the sector.
