Merrill goes retail in online repositioning exercise

Merrill Lynch and Company Inc, a financial services powerhouse, unveiled three Web sites in September 1999 for its 8 million accounts that serve 4.5 million client households. ShopMerrill will go after consumers with 4 million products from 400 partner retailers, such as eJeweler, BabyCenter.com and eToys.com. Merrillauctions will hold special auctions exclusively for Merrill's clients. TradeOut.com will allow Merrill with the help of uBid.com to launch consumer auctions of collectibles, antiques and the like.

Sakhr pioneers Arab e-commerce site
Article Abstract:
Digitek International of Falls Church, VA, has partnered with Egypt's Sakhr Software to sell software in the Middle East through the Internet. Two sites, www.sakhrsoft.com and www.sakhr.com, will offer 76 software titles, including educational, entertainment, translation and children's titles. The former site is in English and the latter is in Arabic. An advertisment campaign will run simultaneously in Middle Eastern publications and in North American publications that cater to Arab communities.
