A handy tool to have
Article Abstract:
Precision Shapes of Virginia Inc, based in Chesapeake, VA, has found out that the infrared measuring device developed by Sterling, VA-based Arc Second can be used for purposes other than for checking tolerances of the tooling and molds that Precision Shapes makes for boatbuilders. The $30,000 device can be used by boatbuilders to improvise hull designs and by boatyard operators to make quick measurements of boat parts that need extensive repairs or renovations.

Article Abstract:
Northern Airborne Technology has introduced the first commercial model of a new 406 MHz device that combines Global Positioning System (GPS) technology with an emergency position-indicating radio beacon (EPIRB). The GPS-EPIRB can give a precise location to rescures than a conventional 406 EPIRB. Moreover, Northern's SATFIND-406 GPIRB can update its position every 20 minutes allowing rescuers to compute the rate and direction of drift when plotting an intercept course.
