Internet tax panel close to compromise
Article Abstract:
Online services providers could see a new sales tax system imposed on the industry since the Federal Advsisory Commission on Electronic Commerce is likely to reach a consensus by its Apr 21, 2000, deadline. Based on recent developments, the tax panel will most probably approve compromise proposals that call for an extended Internet tax moratorium and allow state and local governents to reform their sales-tax structures.

No Internet tax proponents issue ban proposals
Article Abstract:
A plan to ban online tax collections is being pushed by an e-Freedom Coalition of over 20 consumer, taxpayer and public policy organizations. The proposal also includes a permanent ban on sales and use taxes that apply to online commerce. The plan takes the form of a proposal to the federal Advisory Commission on Electronic Commerce, which was established by Congress in fall 1998 after the enactment of a three-year ban on new Internet taxes.
