Clock ticks on telemarketing bills
Article Abstract:
Two proposed legislations designed to restrict telemarketing activities in the US are not expected to be finished in time before the congressional recess in fall 2000. H.R. 3180 or the Telemarketing Victims Protection Act will ban telemarketing calls from 5pm to 7pm while H.R. 3100 or the Know Your Caller Bill prohibits telemarketers from preventing consumers from knowing their identities and phone numbers through caller-ID systems.

ERA issues telemarketing guidelines
Article Abstract:
The Arlington, VA-based Electronic Retailing Assn (ERA) has issued its telemarketing rules and regulations in mid-Jun 2000. The ERA guidelines covers such issues as privacy, disclosure of information to clients, billing practices as well as the use of devices that block caller-ID systems and prerecorded outbound calling systems. The guidelines were made under a move by the trade association to enhance consumer confidence via self-regulation.
