Otto bets on growth of Web and US subsidiary

Otto Versand expects Web sales to represent 20% of sales in 2010 and to top 1 billion Deutschmarks in 2000. Corporate sales in FY1999-2000 topped DM40 billion due primarrily to Chicago-based Spiegel Group's contribution, which boosted revenues 10% to $3.4 billion. For the first time, more than half of the world's largest mail order house's sales came from outside Germany with a robust North American market making a major contribution to the growth of non-German sales.

Otto celebrates 50th year with 10-percent sales gain

Otto Versand, the world's biggest mail-order company, said preliminary results indicated a more than 10% increase in sales to DM32.9 billion (about $18 billion) in fiscal year 1998. The German company said nearly half the sales were from foreign operations. Foreign revenues grew 13.5% in 1998, compared with a 9.5% increase for domestic sales. The company operates in 19 countries, including China and Taiwan.

Otto sales outside Germany top 50 percent for first time

Otto Versand Gesellschaft mit beschraenkter Haftung und Co' sales outside Germany made up more than 50% of its total sales for 1999, which is the first time for the world's largest mail-order house since it was established 50 years ago. Preliminary figures for 1999 that was released in spring of 2000 showed the company's total sales rose by almost 23% to 40 billion Deutschmarks.
