State trades group says there is no need for any such bill
Article Abstract:
The Maryland Marine Trades Assn (MMTA) is strongly opposing a state bill that is said to improve practices of boatyards and repair shops in the state. In its position paper, the MMTA argues that the state's Consumer Protection law already covers vessel repair facilities and that the bill, which is patterned after automobile repair acts, is not applicable to boats since they are very different from automobiles. The association also believes that the bill will make the repair job longer than expected and force marine repair facilities to increase their fees.
