Marinas, clean environment can coexist
Article Abstract:
Marina design consultant Daniel Natchez says that good design planning of dock and pier facilities can contribute considerably to ensuring the long- term environmental compatibility of marinas. He pointed out that marina design must factor in the composition of the docks and anchoring systems, navigation and safety, as well as the various boat services. Design layout must make the best use of the docks as a containment boom for surface spills, debris and trash.

Vinyl finding its place in marinas, too
Article Abstract:
Vinyl has slowly been replacing wood as a siding material for houses, windows and sheet piling for marina bulkheads. Materials International Inc VP John Yeosock predicts that the advantages of vinyl will make the market for his material a major one between 2000 and 2003. Two materials manufacturers pointed out the imperviousness of vinyl to sunlight, saltwater and marine borers, and the fact that it does not rot, corrode, crack or peel.
