R.I. boaters coping with discharge ban
Article Abstract:
Boaters and state leaders expressed mixed reactions on the new no-discharge regulation in Rhode Island, which prohibits pumping or dumping of marine heads within three miles of the state's coastline. One of the potential benefits of the discharge ban is the clean up of coastal waters, state leaders say. The ban will ensure that future generations will have clean water as well as ensure the health of the state's marine resources. Boaters, meanwhile, claim that the ban unfairly targets them as polluters. Some boaters state that the discharge ban should be out in the open waters and not in harbors and bays.
