Savings examined in FedEx-USPS deal
Article Abstract:
Auditors are looking into whether US Postal Service (USPS) managers misinformed their governing board by claiming that a contract with Federal Express Corp (FedEx) will save the debt-ridden agency more than $1 billion. The no-bid $6.3-billion contract awarded by USPS to FedEx in Jan 2001 requires FedEx to transport USPS' Express Mail, Priority Mail and First-Class Mail. The agreement is scheduled to take effect in Aug 2001.
