Article Abstract:
A factory shopping outlet encompassing 100 different designer stores has been constructed within disused railway sheds in Swindon, Wiltshire, England, at a cost of 40 million pounds sterling. The site is owned by BAA McArthur Glen which already owns several shopping centres in the UK and France. Architects Rawls and Company worked with English Heritage to refurbish the Victorian grade II buildings. The shops were hung from the structure of the old building and from new steel I-beams. BAA hopes to have some 4 million shoppers visit the site annually which opened in Mar 1997.
