Subaru, L.L. Bean hit the road in outdoorsy marketing deal

Subaru of America Inc and LL Bean Inc announced that they have entered into a marketing agreement. Subaru will become LL Bean's official vehicle while LL Bean, in turn, will become the official apparel outfitter of Subaru. The latter will also give visible presence to LL Bean in all of its sponsored outdoor events. On the other hand, LL Bean will provide Subaru with one- and two-page spreads and advertorials in its catalogs. This is the first agreement of its kind for both companies although they share the same rugged, outdoorsy image.

Macy's wraps up new gifts catalog

Macy's catalog division of Federated Department Stores is launching a new 76-page gift catalog on Nov 30, 1999. Macy's by Mail Gifts is expected to reach around 1 million people. Although the catalog operations have been running less than two years, the Cincinnati, OH-based retailer is posting strong market results due to its acquisition of Fingerhut in Mar 1999, which established a fulfillment coverage and database marketing that covered 30 million consumers.
