USPS' shaky future a hot topic in the House
Article Abstract:
The Postal Modernization Act might not be enacted in 2000. The bill provides greater flexibility to the US Postal Service and enables it to give bonuses to its employees. It is also believed that the bill would eventually die since Rep McHugh has to end his three terms as chairman of the US House subcommittee on the postal service. McHugh expressed his concern over the future of the US Postal Service which lost $300 million for the fiscal year that ended Sep 8, 2000, due to slower-than-expected volumes and the escalating costs of postal delivery.
