USPS commits to lower periodical rate increase
Article Abstract:
The US Postal Service will be lowering the 15% magazine rate increase that it filed with the Postal Rate Commission. Postal Rate Commission Postmaster General William J Henderson has announced to the subcommittee on international security, proliferation and federal services that he is committed to cutting down the rate increase for magazine publishers from 15% to 8% to 10%. The announcement is good news for direct marketers although experts are skeptical since the USPS updating of its test-year forecast on Jul 7, 2000, was uon the request of the agency.

USPS governors reject rate reduction
Article Abstract:
A proposal by the Postal Rate Commission (PRC) to reduce the Bulk Parcel Return Service rate by $0.13 has been rejected by the US Postal Service's Board of Governors in Jun 2000. The board's chairman said that the recommendation was dismissed because the PRC failed to clarify why the current fee of $1.75 per piece is unlawful. He also said that the proper way to adjust fees is during the omnibus rate case process, which is under way.
