Adding water reduces taste
Article Abstract:
Adding water to ham does not improve the taste, contrary to manufacturers' claims. Ham labelled 'no added water' is better tasting, less rubbery and better looking than ham with added water. Legislation requiring declarations of added water content in ham is often ignored. The amount of water added need not be listed on cans of ham with other added ingredients but this regulation should be changed. Most canned, loose and pre-packed hams contain around 70% water, but the amount of water added by manufacturers varied greatly from 0-20% among the 25 ham brands analysed.

Troubled waters: People are satisfied with the quality of their tap water, but think it's poor value for money. so what's going wrong?
Article Abstract:
A survey of 1,00 people in 10 water and sewerage company regions throughout England and Wales, produced a mixed message. Most consumers felt that the service was generally good, but a vast majority felt they paid too much for what they get. Their main priorities with regard to service were constant supply and water quality. Only half of consumers rated their company's performance with regard to conserving water resources highly. 46% of those surveyed did not think that their water company's service had improved since privatization.

Water slide safety
Article Abstract:
Ten leisure pools with water slides examined had safety problems which caused minor injuries. The Sports Council, the Health and Safety Commission (HSC)and the Institute of Baths and Recreation Management have guidelines for their design and operation, but a single set would be less confusing. The main problems are insufficient supervision and failure to comply with the pool's own rules. Half the pools did not have guard rails. Participants should follow the rules and any accidents should be entered in the accident book.
