Childcare choices
Article Abstract:
A number of factors will determine the form of childcare selected by parents. Many parents rely on informal childcare provided by friends or relatives. The main forms of paid childcare are a nanny, a childminder and a day nursery. Childminders can offer one-to-one care, and offer a high degree of flexibility. However, they do not have to be trained and may not care for children who are unwell. A nanny is generally highly qualified, and cares for the child in his or her own home. This can be an expensive option, and privacy can be a difficulty if the nanny lives in. A day nursery allows children to mix with others, but may not offer much flexibility.

Picking the right childcare
Article Abstract:
It is important that parents considering childcare options visit prospective childcare providers. It is advisable to do this when other children are present, if possible. Questions should be asked about training and experience, and it is wise to obtain confidential references from at least two other sets of parents. It may be useful to look for certain quality schemes, including accreditation by the Pre-schools Learning Alliance for pre-schools.
