Choose a better current account: See how your bank rates for service, facilities, interest rates and charges
Article Abstract:
A survey shows that nearly two-thirds of people still hold a main bank account with one of the traditional 'big four' banks, despite lower levels of customer satisfaction. Market leaders are NatWest, Barclays, Lloyds and Midland. None of the big banks were better than average with regard to the way a current account is handled. First Direct was top, followed by Alliance & Leicester and Co-operative Bank, Yorkshire Bank and The Royal Bank of Scotland. The features of a good current account are considered and details of best buy current accounts are provided.

Better than butter
Article Abstract:
A change of bread spread can help people cut their fat intake in line with health recommendations but confusing product labelling can make it difficult to make the correct choice. Switching from butter to margarines that are high in polyunsaturates will help reduce saturated fat intake, but total fat intake is the most important consideration. Very low fat spreads are low in calories but cannot be used for cooking and were the least preferred in a taste test of 29 bread spreads. In contrast, a low-fat spread was rated higher than butter in the test.

Better burgers
Article Abstract:
The nutritional content of burger and chips varied in seven fast-food restaurant chains investigated. Cheese and sauce add fat and calories. Two plain burgers contain more fat than one large burger. Chicken and fish are deep fried in batter. Low-fat sauces, cheese and milk shakes, wholemeal buns and no presalting would improve the healthiness of the food. The size of a portion of chips varied.
