Cling film: a clear case of confusion
Article Abstract:
Many leading retailers are still using cling film to wrap fatty foods, despite Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAFF) advice against this. Chemicals in cling film have been shown to migrate into wrapped food, especially fatty items, and food can also be contaminated by other types of packaging, including metal and glass. It will be many years before European legislation on food packaging is introduced for all types of foods, and complete enforcement will be difficult. To reduce the risk of contamination, consumers should not use cling film for wrapping fatty foods, in contact with food in a microwave oven or in a conventional oven.

Rebate debate
Article Abstract:
The glazing industry and joinery makers disagree on the need for deep timber window rebates. The glazing manufacturers prefer timber framed windows to have the same specifications as aluminium and PVC-U windows, with a rebate of over 18mm. However, joiners are not convinced and point out the rarity of window failures due to smaller rebates. The most critical factor in window performance is site practice at installation.
