Binoculars should be tested for comfort before purchase, to ensure that they are easy to use and suitable for the individuals' inter-eye distance. The meaning of magnification, objective lens diameter, exit pupil diameter and field of view are described. Porro prism and roof prism binocular types are discussed and several models are reviewed by the Consumers' Association for contrast, brightness, alignment, field of view, exit pupil diameter, light transmission and overall picture quality.
