Full steam ahead
Article Abstract:
There are a number of factors to be taken into consideration when purchasing a steam iron. Many people live in an area which has hard tap water, and this can cause problems with steam irons. Some include devices to soften hard water, while others may be able to use distilled or demineralised water. It is worth considering an iron with an enamel soleplate, as this gives a smooth glide when iron. The best irons in recent tests were the Moulinex Ultimate 200 V56, the Philips Mistral 20 HI 220, the Tefal Ultraglide Filterscale 2017 and the Ufesa Styrium PV-153.

Not any old iron
Article Abstract:
A range of 17 steam irons costing from 14 pounds sterling to 50 pounds were tested for convenience, performance, features and basic specifications. The iron which performed best was the Philips Azur Excel 20 HI 520. The Azur costs 50 pounds. The Philips Mistral 20 HI 220, at 19 pounds, was also recommended. The Tefal Turboglide 3000 Contact, costing 90 pounds, has a steam-injection system which provides steam constantly and it was also recommended. Fan assisted ironing boards were also tested but the results were unimpressive.
