Genetically modified corn
Article Abstract:
The Swiss firm Ciba-Geigy plans to introduce a genetically-altered corn called Maximiser to the Australian market in Apr 1997. The corn has three modified genes designed to resist pests, herbicides and ampicillin. The corn has prompted protests from environmentalists and health advocates.

Cereals - your best wake-up call?
Article Abstract:
The results of a a nutritional analysis of almost 200 popular breakfast cereals in Australia is presented. Seventeen 0cereals won a highly-recommended rating while 82 fell under the category 'not recommended for everyday eating.' Tables showing the rankings are included.

The best thing since sliced bread?
Article Abstract:
Sixteen toasters designed for thick breads, crumpets, and muffins were rated, weighted 70% for toasting and 30% ease of use. The Speedie ST58 was top-rated, followed by the Kambrook KT91. Eight models were not recommended.
