How green is your garden?
Article Abstract:
Gardens can look green with little water. Digging in organic matter creates a moisture reservoir. Herbs, silver-leaved plants and groundcover plants survive well in dry conditions. Mulching plants and hoeing weeds retain moisture. Watering should be done thoroughly weekly in the evening. Rainwater from a water butt and greywater from bathing or washing up can be used. Soil can be improved with composted kitchen waste and garden rubbish. Wildlife can be encouraged to deal with pestsand diseases instead of chemicals.
