Determination of growth of anaerobic fungi on soluble and cellulosic substrates using a pressure transducer
Article Abstract:
The use of a pressure transducer helps evaluate the collection of fermentation gases during the growth of anaerobic fungi such as Neocallimastix hurleyensis and Caecomyces communis on particulate and soluble sources in gas-tight through conventional anaerobic techniques. Gas accumulation profiles are determined by measuring the pressure build-up inside the syringe via releasing it through the transducer attached to a voltmeter. This techniques facilitates growth evaluation on glucose substrate without resorting to destructive sampling. Specific growth rates, fermentation gas yields and doubling times can be obtained through a correlation of the gas profiles with biomass accumulation and glucose loss.

Letter of the law
Article Abstract:
Buying office furniture can be a costly business but it can be even more so if health and safety requirements are ignored. The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 requires all employers, employees and self-employed people to create a safe working environment and the legislation is supported by approved codes of practice and guidance notes dealing with particular topics, such as working with display screen equipment. If employers neglect their legal duties, serious financial consequences may ensue, with a 5,000 pounds sterling maximum fine for non compliance.
