DRTV: beyond the fringe! After more than a decade, infomercials are still struggling for respect - and new categories
Article Abstract:
The perception that infomercials just promote products and services outside the mainstream retail market is untrue. Infomercials have been used not only to sell products such as physical-fitness equipment, but they have also been used to promote retail sales by providing consumer information. Companies such as Apple Computer Inc and Taylor Made have used infomercials successfully, but many brand name companies may find that infomercials are an ineffective means to market their products. The infomercial market is worth $1.4 billion.

5,000 Years Old and Still Ticking
Article Abstract:
What started out as an April Fool's Day joke, turned into a profitable business venture for Peter Payack. Payack is a contributing editor to a computer magazine, and he included a phony ad for a stonehenge pocket watch on a parody issue of the magazine. When the ad drew responses from readers, Payack found someone to design the watch, and a plastics manufacturer to produce a mold and make the watch.
