Just three office and compact typewriters have been launched in the UK since February 1994. A recommended buy is the TA SE 410, priced at 280 pounds sterling. The non-memory machine has a printout speed of 20 characters per second and has most of the basic editing features, inclduing auto carriage return and flush right. It is suitable for general office use. The other machines evaluated are the Facit T420 and the Facit T460.

Portable memory typewriters are suitable for home use and for the low-end office user. Prices range from 110 pounds sterling to around 150 pounds sterling. A best buy is the Brother AX-330/GX-35, priced at 110 pounds sterling. The machine is well built, has a one-line display and a 20K memory. Features include a spell checker, a decimal tab and stop codes. Other portable memory typewriters are evaluated.
