PEP up your nest egg
Article Abstract:
A personal equity plan (PEP) can be a flexible, tax-efficient way of investing. However, it is important to select a PEP carefully, as the wrong choice can mean that no benefits are gained. The two basic types of PEP are general PEPs and single-company PEPs. The former is used to invest in unit trusts, shares, corporate bonds, investment trusts or a mixture of these, while the latter invests in the shares of only one company, with the investment limited to 3,000 pounds sterling in each tax year.

Taken for a ride
Article Abstract:
The UK government launched an inquiry into new car prices in August 1998. The UK is invariably the most expensive country to buy a car in, and a survey by the European Commission has revealed that a Ford Mondeo costs 58% more in the UK than in Spain. The topic is being investigated by the Department of Trade and Industry Select Committee and 'Which?' magazine has provided evidence.
