A test of 25 bikes looks at the most popular types, and provides a Best Buy guide. Mountain bikes are designed for off road riding but the tests showed that there was no problem using them on roads, as long as the tyres were at the correct pressures. Hybrid bikes are suitable for road cycling, but can also be used on uneven ground. Tips for choosing the right size bike and keeping it secure are provided. The best buy hybrid bikes were the Giant X-500 at 199 pounds sterling, the Ridgeback 503SX at 250 pounds sterling and the Saracen Hy-way at 200 pounds sterling. The Raleigh M-Trax Sport 50 at 270 pounds sterling, and Specialized Hardrock GX at 300 pounds sterling were the best buy mountain bikes. A table lists features of all the bikes tested.

Six general practitioner practices in the same Family Health Services Authority (FHSA) were surveyed for patient satisfaction with the appointments system. Some practices gave appointments and some were open-access. Patients often wait 24 minutes after their appointment time and 45 minutes in the open-access system. Some practices use a mixture of the two. Flexibility and good organisation help patients. Measurable targets would help. The interval between appointments should be long enough.
