Article Abstract:
The cause of Sick Building Syndrome (SBS) remains unknown, but it is thought to be associated with bad air conditioning. Its effects on staff can range from sore eyes to lethargy and poor concentration. Buildings classified as having SBS must be shown to cause symptoms in staff that increase with the amount of time spent in the building and that disappear when staff are out of it. There is no one factor that causes SBS, but causes can include poor ventilation, pollutants and poor lighting. Most cases of SBS occurs in people with high levels of stress working in large office buildings.

Article Abstract:
The UK gas industry is already introducing pilot schemes in preparation for 1998, when all business and domestic customers will be able to select their own supplier. Businesses are likely to benefit as competition pushes prices down and makes efficiency more important. Savings of 10-15% could be made, although pricing structures could become more volatile. There will be a rise in the number of energy brokers, ensuring that customers do not waste time choosing the best supplier.

Article Abstract:
Few companies in the U.K. have any formal contingency plans should disaster strike, with just 33% of large organisations having a business continuity plan. Disaster recovery planning can either be organised by an outside consultant or can be formulated in-house. A competent plan should consider the most important office functions, such as IT, accommodation and telecommunications and decide which are the most important. A contingency strategy can then be formulated.
