Article Abstract:

The performance, specifications and dimensions of ten loft ladders and 13 stepladders are discussed. The FRZ 50350 Steps is quite a strong stepladder, and is good value at only 29 pounds sterling. The 35 pounds sterling Aluval loft ladder is quite easy to use, but requires a lot of clearance room in the loft. The Blue Seal Easy Stow, priced at 60 pounds sterling, was safe to use with its handrail, and can be operated easily. Before using a ladder, it should be checked, and buffers or feet should be secure. Ladders which may corrode should be stored in a ventilated but dry place. Further advice on ladder safety and how to install a loft ladder is also presented.

A child restraint seat survey was based on ECE R44 standards found that only eight restraints kept the test dummy within ECE R444 distance and acceleration limits. Despite this, all the seats met relevant regulations. The seats were also assessed for comfort, ease of use, and ease of placing child in. Klippan Carrytot and Mothercare Baby Travel performed best in safet tests in the stage 1 (0-9 months) series, while AA Euroseat and Britax Cruiser performed best in stage 2-3 (6 months-6 years).
