Surfing the high street
Article Abstract:
Internet shopping is increasing in the UK. UK customers spent 187 million pounds sterling on purchases via the internet in the six months to Sep 1998. The most common purchases are books, CDs and software. Web shopping sites include familiar high street names as well as specialized internet retailers. Some of the sites are grouped into cybermalls which may feature a common purchasing system. One of the biggest cybermalls in the UK is the BarclaySquare mall. Sites vary in quality. Some sites, including those operated by Argos and Dixons, are particularly frustrating to users.

The easiest way to surf the Net?: You can now send e-mails and browse the World Wide Web without needing a computer. But are Internet TV boxes the answer to a technophobe's prayer?
Article Abstract:
The development of Internet TV boxes means it is possible to access the Internet using a TV and a phone line. The first product available is the NetProducts NetStation, costing 300 pounds sterling. It plugs into the SCART TV socket and the phone socket. It is necessary to subscribe to an Internet service provider, and NetChannel offers news, sport, shopping, chat and Internet searches, along with access to the World Wide Web. E-mails can be typed with the use of the remote control. TV's have poorer screen quality and text may be fuzzy.
