Take care with food claims
Article Abstract:
Food manufacturers make misleading health claims in the wording of product labels. The Ministry of Agriculture Fisheries and Food makes recommendations about nutrition claims, but the EC has been deciding on definitions since 1981. US government rules, which define terms and permit seven health claims, are described. Selective information makes products sound suitable when they are not. Some health claims are not based on accepted scientific evidence and fail to clarify their part in overall diet.

Food fraud
Article Abstract:
There are a number of law controlling food content and labelling, but it is still possible for manufacturers to be vague and even misleading about what food items and drinks actually contain. Most frequently, manufacturers are guilty of adding cheaper ingredients to expensive ones and not making this clear. The name of a product does not necessarily give a clear indication of what it actually contains, so it is important to read food labels closely.

Don't believe all you read
Article Abstract:
Research shows that nutritional labels on food products are generally misleading and unreliable. The accuracy of nutritional labels on more than 70 food products was tested and no product carried accurate information. Some 546 tests were undertaken on products such as beans, biscuits and mayonnaise, with just 55 matching the manufacturers' labels, who can use a variety of alternative methods for providing nutritional information.
