An experimental investigation of the P-T stability of Mg-staurolite in the system MgO-Al2O3-SiO2-H2O
Article Abstract:
A study to reassess the stability of Mg-staurolite and clarify inconclusive findings obtained from experiments done by Schreyer in 1968 is given. In these experiments, the metastable growth of Mg-staurolite should not have been neglected since kyanite + periclase + spinel was used in the initial assemblage. The phase relationships for Mg-staurolite at 90 kbar is not accurate because the experiments were carried out at pressures not greater than 25 kbar. Staurolite is a mineral with abundant divalent iron but few divalent cations found in medium-grade metapelites.

U-Pb ages and tectonomagmatic relationships of early Ordovician low-Ti tholeiites, boninites and related plutonic rocks in central Newfoundland, Canada
Article Abstract:
The U-Pb ages and tectonomagnetic relationships of the geochemical composition and postulated tectonic settings of early Ordovician low-Ti tholeiites, boninites and other plutonic rocks in central Newfoundland were investigated. Experimental results showed that the South Lake Igneous Complex (SLIC) terrane is earliest Ordovician in age and genetically associated with a discrete sequence of volcanic rocks in the Wild Bight Group (WBG). It was also found that the older WBG sequence and SLIC are related to ophiolitic rocks found in the Exploits subzone.
