Article Abstract:
The transgression surface of the Alpujarride nappe complex was formed by the erosion of cover material after the isotopic closure temperature window had been breached. Time-temperature calibration of the cooling-uplift-exhumation sequence led to cooling histories that ended with ambient surface conditions. De Jong's cooling-thrust explanation is thus insufficient. Moreover, there is no data in its support. Finally, several of his references to our paper were misleading.

Article Abstract:
The interpretation put forth by Temperley and Windley regarding Grenvillian structural tectonics requires clarification of two key issues. The first is the inclusion of pertinent structural data in the interpretation of Grenvillian events. This claim of the authors is not completely justified. The second point that needs clarification is the interleaving of Lewisian basement and Moine cover documented in the area but not mentioned by Temperley and Windley.

Article Abstract:
The high cooling rates proposed by Zeck et. al. for the Alpujarride complex in southern Spain's Betic zone are reasonable, but their explanation for rapid cooling is not. Mantle and crustal rock thrusting over a cooler lithosphere better explains these cooling rates, rather than the mechanism of extension that was proposed. This occured during the inversion of the Betic zone extensional structure, as implied by pressure-temperature-time modelling.
