Diamond percipitation and mantle metasomatism - evidence from the trace element chemistry of silicate inclusions in diamonds from Akwatia, Ghana
Article Abstract:
Concentrations of trace elements in four main peridotitic silicate phases, garnet, olivine, clinopyroxene and orthopyroxene within diamonds from Akwatia, Ghana, have been determined using SIMS. There was clear dinstinction between harzburgitic and lherzolitic garnet, and three of the four clinopyroxenes have similar major and minor element compositions. REE patterns for calculated melt compositions from iherzolitic garnet inclusions came into the compositional field for kimberlitic-lamproitic and carbonatitic melts.

Syngenetic inclusions in diamond from the Birim field (Ghana) - a deep peridotitic profile with a history of depletion and re-enrichment
Article Abstract:
Diamonds and their syngenetic mineral compositions from Akwatia mine deposits beside Ghana's Birim River were examined to determine the constitution, thermal formation and evolution of deep West African cratonic roots. Results showed an exceptional peridotitic diamond series mostly belonging to the harzburgitic paragenesis. Findings indicate the relationship of these diamonds to upper mantle that resembles other diamond sources in other parts of the world.

Rare and unusual mineral inclusions in diamonds from Mwadui, Tanzania
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted on diamonds from the mines of Mwadui, Tanzania, to determine the lithospheric mantle beneath it. Results showed a very high ratio of lherzolitic to harzburgitic garnet inclusions and low Mg/Fe ratios in olivine and orthopyroxene in the Mwadui diamonds. The syngenetic mineral inclusions in diamonds suggest an unusually fertile section of lithospheric mantle.
