Discussion on transpression and transtension zones
Article Abstract:
Movement in shear zones is usually oblique and the movement picture and the resultant structures are commonly triclinic. Monoclinic situations are special end members. The general statement by Dewey et al. that the mathematical complexity of the triclinic models may restrict their general usage when interpreting geological examples is in error. The applicability of the model does not depend so much on mathematical simplicity but rather on how realistic the assumed boundary conditions are and whether the results are presented in a user-friendly manner.

Discussion on Silurian and Early Devonian sinistral deformation of the Ratagain Granite, Scotland: constraints on the age of Caledonian movements on the Great Glen system
Article Abstract:
Hutton and McErlean (1991) document two distinctsinistral movement phases on the Strathconan Fault: mid-Silurian sinistral shear of the Southern Uplands terrane of the British Caledonides, and Early Devonian brittle faulting and low temperature shearing due to the Laurentia-Avalonia collision. Recent stratigraphical and isotopic data confirm this result. Intense, pervasive foliation of the Southern Uplands high strain zone is characterized by phyllonitic fabric, local sinistral C-S fabric, and protomylonite and mylonite textures.
