Petrology of ultramafic xenoliths from Kishyuku Lava, Fukue-jima, Southwest Japan
Article Abstract:
Ultramafic xenoliths from Kishyuku Lava, Fukue-jima, Southwest Japan include dunite, harzburgite, pyroxenite and spinel lherzolite. Cr/(Cr+Al) ratios and olivine compositions suggest a depleted mantle derivation for the xenoliths. Geothermobarometric studies applied to the xenoliths provide a high paleogeotherm. Asthenospheric injection related to rifting of Northeast China and the Japan Sea affected the creation of the high geotherm. Magma underplating or elevation of asthenospheric diapirs after rifting could also have caused the high geotherm.

Thermal history of the upper mantle beneath a young back-arc extensional zone: ultramafic xenoliths from San Luis Potosi, Central Mexico
Article Abstract:
Research describing the thermal history of the upper mantle under a back-arc extensional area is presented. The study focuses on the San Luis Potosi (SLP) volcanic field in central Mexico. The SLP region displays traces of Quaternary basanites and tuff brecias, which exhibit various igneous rock inclusions. Surface heat levels have not shown equilibrium status with underground temperatures. Thus, a link is established between the SLP mantle segment and the back-arc extension of the Quaternary belt.
