Structure and tectonic development of the southern Rocky Mountain trench
Article Abstract:
The seismic reflection method, assisted by geological maps and cross-sections, borehole data and stratigraphic studies, provides the tectonic history of the southern Rocky Mountain trench. Rifting during Proterozoic created the basement ramp upon which sedimentation and culmination occurred throughout Mesozoic. The gravitational instability in uplifted terrain during Tertiary resulted in normal faulting, thus creating the trench. The hinge of the basal detachment controls the trench location. Relationship with the northern Rocky Mountain trench is studied.

Proterozoic and Cenozoic subduction complexes: A comparison of geometric features
Article Abstract:
Structures seen on deep seismic reflection data, interpreted as products of Middle Proterozoic accretionary processes in the Wopmay orogen of western Canada were analyzed. The reflection patterns and geological setting were compared to those of the modern Cascadia subduction zone near Vancouver Island. The similarities found are remarkable providing strong support for the concept that the reflection geometry along the Lithoprobe Slave Northern Cordillera Lithospheric Evolution (SNORCLE) was due to plate accretionary processes.

Comment on 'Mid-Cretaceous thrusting in the southern coast Belt, British Columbia and Washington, after strike-slip fault reconstruction' by Paul J. Umhoefer and Robert B. Miller
Article Abstract:
Umhoefer and Miller's new restoration of Late Cretaceous-early Tertiary strike-slip faults in the sourthern Coast Belt of Washington and British Columbia is to be applauded. Their analysis raises geometric and kinematic questions about the orogeny similar to those raised by Misch three decades earlier. The analysis does not attempt restoration of vertical separation on high-angle faults and reaches no consensus.
