Comparison between gravity-driven deformation styles and behavior associated with mobile shales and salt
Article Abstract:
Differences in the mechanical behavior of salt and mobile shales lead to different structural styles. The basic aspects of their gravity tectonics, however, remain the same. Salt mobility is a fundamental material property, while shale mobility depends on the presence of overpressured fluids. Both salt and shale tectonics involve prekinematic structures and synkinematic deformation. Fault-dominated depocenters and diapirs are common to both. Shale and salt diapirs in the Niger delta are discussed.

Extensional deformation across an active margin, relations with subsidence, uplift, and rotations: The Hikurangi subduction, New Zealand
Article Abstract:
The evolution of the Hikurangi subduction margin in the eastern North Island of New Zealand, was analyzed. There is evidence of extensional deformation and this problem is crucial as the forearc domain was previously thought ot have undergone almost continuous compression during the late Cenozoic. It is proposed that the extensional structures reflect the process of tectonic erosion during the middle and late Miocene.
