Veins in the Locksport dolostone: evidence for an Acadian fluid circulation system
Article Abstract:
The development of the Appalachian orogen is punctuated by major pulses in tectonic activity, one of which involves the post-Silurian Acadian orogeny. The Lockport dolostone veins show evidence of an active fluid circulation system through their orientation and spatial distribution. Clockwise rotation has a mean orientation from east 067 degrees to west 086 degrees. The veins do not extend into the basal Lockport group while exhibiting lighter calcite vein delta(super)18-O(sub)PDB values east of the Clarendon-Linden fault. These systematic veins represent the Acadian orogeny's cratonward signature.

Termination of a continental-scale strike-slip fault in partially melted crust: the West Pernambuco shear zone, northeast Brazil
Article Abstract:
Deep seismic profiling has identified strike-slip faults that transect the entire crust. Their deformation pattern may have been caused by different rheological rock properties. Data from the late Precambrian West Pernambuco shear zone is used to describe tectonic movements of partially liquified crust. The zone has a fanlike structure associated with transpressional belts extending about 50 km. This pattern may have been caused by low continental crust strength at the observation level.

Stratigraphic and kinematic modeling of thrust evolution, northern Apennines, Italy
Article Abstract:
Analysis of the stratigraphic record of foreland basins is facilitated using a kinematic model of thrust evolution. Thrusting and sedimentation simulations indicate that basin stratigraphy is a good indicator of changes in the relative rates and mode of activation of thrusts. Forward modeling resulted in the reconstruction of Pliocene sequence of thrust sheets. The results are consistent with the current stratigraphic record of the Po piggyback basins.
