100% foreign ownership allowed in Jebel Ali
Article Abstract:
The Emirate of Dubai, part of the United Arab Emirates, issued Law No 9 of 1992, which allowed the establishment of wholly foreign-owned legal entities in the Jebel Ali Free Zone. Law No 9, which went into force on Sep 26, 1992, marks the first instance of a Gulf Cooperation Council jurisdiction tolerating 100% foreign-owned, limited liability entities. The law's chief purpose is to attract foreign investment in the Free Zone, which was set up in 1985 to encourage international trade and the use of Jebel Ali Port. The law should benefit foreign companies despite some limitations.
